No More Cages

The No More Cages team is working on 2 goals under a larger umbrella of decarceration. We are fundraising for Black Mama’s Bailout, a national movement to get black mothers out of jail before Mother’s Day. We are also working with the Ella Baker Center to free incarcerated people at Santa Rita Jail and redirect funding to health and community support.” Donate to the National Bail Out Fund here, send us a receipt, and No More Cages team member Kai will send you this print that they made!

Care

The past few weeks the Care Team has been planning how we are going to support children, elders, and folks with disabilities during this time. Through consensus, the team has decided to go forward with supporting the Bay Resistance Support Hotline, which provides mutual aid in a variety of capacities to those who need it. Additionally, the team is supporting Abundant Beginnings, a Black-led justice-oriented preschool, by teaching classes to their students one day a week.

Worker Support

The Workers Support Team has been working on the #ShareMyCheck campaign. We are encouraging workers who will be receiving a check but do not need it to share it with Second Harvest Food Bank and other groups working to ensure food security for undocumented people in our communities impacted by this crisis.

Houseless and Food Security

“Hi I’m Mia and I’m on the Houseless Committee. Our goal within the next couple of months is to support the houseless community in the Bay Area as well as those struggling with food security. To accomplish our goal we have decided to volunteer with the East Oakland Collective, a community organization that has been particularly active during quarantine in supporting our houseless population. We plan to split up into three teams focused on advocacy, fundraising, and volunteering. In the next month you can expect to see a social media campaign to raise money for essentials within houseless encampments.”
